One fabric, two jobs. The white side bounces a hard source back as a broad, gentle fill; flip to black and the same panel absorbs light instead, deepening shadows and adding shape.
Negative fill is the underrated half: on a white cyclorama it is often the only way to keep a subject from going flat.
